DJ Chubsta

Chris Burn, known on the dancehall scene as DJ Chubsta, is a turntable genius. He is the type of DJ that doesn’t let your feet get a rest and makes you remember the house parties you wish were still at today.

At most “reggae parties” most people can tell you what the next song is going to play before it plays. I don’t follow the typical song pattern that I hear from most reggae djs. I am the type of dj that feels out the crowd and plays what I think the crowd will dance to. I don’t go by what SHOULD be played next; I go by what I FEEL.

DJ Chubsta was born in Belmopan, Belize on February 27th 1982. He was always into music and entertaining a crowd. DJ’ing just came as one of the things that I knew how to do.

It is the collision of his American and Caribbean heritage and influences like Stone Love Sound, King Addies, Jaro, Kid Capri, Jazzy Jeff, and Grand Master Flash, Tony Matterhorn, Black Chiney, and Claudie Mack, that makes him a unique DJ Listening to Sound Clashes with Stone Love, King Addies, Jaro, how they get the crowd involved, and on the dance floor made me want to have that same affect. Moving to America made me grow as a DJ and easier to do what I love on a larger scale.

DJ Chubsta moved to Arizona, and was determined to bring reggae and dancehall culture to his new home. After DJ-ing for only a couple of years, not only does reggae and dancehall have a following in the Grand Canyon State, but the movement has spread across the map.

DJ Chubsta is a resident DJ at the largest reggae venue in Arizona, Capitol Sports, since October 2008. He is also known in the dancehall scenes in Miami, Florida and Los Angeles, California. Check out DJ Chubsta on www.sikmixxradio.com and soon on Florida’s Riddims 94.5 fm.

“One of my biggest compliments was from a patron at the club I dj at. I gave away a lova’s rock cd one Saturday, the next Saturday this woman’s husband came up to me and said he had one problem with my cd. The problem was that I only had 49 songs on it. He also said that his wife said that I took her ‘right there,’” said DJ Chubsta, “I loved that because it made them long for more of my music which keeps me in demand as well as keeps my fans happy.”
